NEW EU DIRECTIVE FOR OBFCM READING

A new EU directive requires the read-out of OBFCM data as part of technical vehicle testing from 20 May 2023. OBFCM stands for On Board Fuel Consumption Monitoring and provides information about the amount of fuel or energy used by the vehicle. The data is transmitted to the European Commission via a central, country-specific interface. The directive affects all vehicles, both cars and commercial vehicles, registered from 01/01/2021 onwards.

Workshops and testing organisations require an OBD read-out device, which is connected to the relevant software, for the OBFCM retrieval. AVL DiTEST will provide the necessary hardware and software from now on.

THE MAIN QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

ABOUT OBFCM

What vehicles are affected by the new EU directive?

The OBFCM reading applies for all cars and commercial vehicles registered from 01/01/2021 onwards, irrespective of the drivetrain.

From when do I need to read out OBFCM data in my workshop?

Workshops must provide the relevant OBFCM data from 20/05/2023.

Does AVL DiTEST have a solution for this?

Yes, AVL DiTEST has the right solution. This always consists of a combination of hardware (VCI) and software (DSS).

In EU countries that already have corresponding legislation, we produce a tailor-made solution for the country. For those countries that have not yet defined a relevant law and therefore do not have a specified route for data transmission, we offer a standard tool.

What AVL DiTEST VCIs are supported?

We support all current AVL DiTEST VCIs. This includes VCI 1000, OBD 1000 and OBD 880.

Where can I get all the necessary components?

Please contact your AVL DiTEST distributor.

Is the result of the OBFCM reading relevant for passing the PTI?

No, the result is not the determining factor for passing the periodic technical inspection and therefore has no influence on the further use of the vehicle.
